Describing the Setting. A Sample

  1. Setting: In Rahab’s home.

    1. Description of the place:
    Dimmed, orange/reddish flow from the fire at the fireplace. Smell of dinner is still lingering in the room. The children are dressed in their nightgowns. Shawls of different colours and designs decorate the room. Big armchair beside the fireplace, some children sat there while others sat on the floor around the chair. Big carpet/rug on the floor.

    2. Positions of characters:
    Rahab: Centrestage when narrating the story of Jericho
    The children: Seated down, some on floor and some on chairs, facing Rahab at Downstage Left, spilling over to down stage centre
    The spies: Hidden at upstage left
    Outer Wall: upstage right, rope for spies to escape and where scarlet cord was tied
    King’s soldiers: Appear at downstage right, entrance/door into Rahab’s home
    Fire place: Downstage centre, children sits next to fire place
